Among the local folks, Pontian is known to be a seafood heaven, offering a great variety of fresh seafood at reasonable prices. The Larkin Bus Terminal, also known as Larkin Sentral, has the most number of public buses that goes to Pontian. The advantage of taking the public bus includes:

Currently, there are 3 bus services that get you to Pontian from Larkin Bus Terminal – Kembara City, City Bus and Maju. All three bus services have similar routes and operate on a daily basis.

Unlike the Larkin Bus Terminal, there is only 1 bus service that gets you to Pontian from JB Sentral.

D) GETTING FROM SINGAPORE TO PONTIAN BY SELF DRIVE

Taking the public buses may be the most inexpensive way to travel, however, it may not be the most comfortable or reliable mode of transportation. Self drive is a great alternative for those looking for a smoother and convenient ride.

Here are a couple of driving options from JB CIQ and the Second Link.

Route 1: From JB CIQ via Route 5

From JB CIQ via Route 5

  1. After passing through the immigration and custom clearance at JB CIQ, take Route 52 to Jalan Bertingkat Skudai/Route 1.
  2. Continue driving until you see the exit to E3/Tmn Tampoi Utama/Taman Perling. Take the exit, keep right and merge onto Persisiran Perling/Route 17.
  3. Drive straight and you will reach the Plaza Perling Toll. Once you have passed the toll, continue driving along the Second Link Expressway.
  4. Keep on driving until you see a signboard that says Lebuhraya Pontian / Route 5. Keep right to continue onto Pontian Highway and make a right turn into Jalan Tanjung Kupang/J7. Continue to drive straight.
  5. On your right, there should be a petrol station and rows of shophouses. Make a left turn. Keep on driving until you pass a small river, and a Chinese restaurant on your right. Make a left turn just after it.
  6. Turn right into Lebuhraya Skudai – Pontian/Route 5
  7. Continue to drive straight until you reach Pontian Kecil.

Route 2: From Second Link via Route 5

From Second Link via Route 5

Driving from the Second Link is fairly more straightforward as compared to driving from JB CIQ

  1. Head northeast on the Second Link Expressway and take the Pontian/Johor Bahru/Pasir Gudang Exit.
  2. Keep to your left and continue towards Lebuhraya Pontian.
  3. Follow the directions from JB CIQ via Route 5, step 4 onwards.

Note: The Second Link Expressway is also known as Lebuhraya Hubungan Kedua Malaysia – Singapura, while Lebuhraya Pontian is known as Pontian Highway.

Trip Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours from JB CIQ, or 1 hour from the Second Link, depending on the traffic situation.
